I am auditioning for The Sound of Music and I'd like the be Liesl.

She's the one who sings I am sixteen going on seventeen.

I am fifteen years old but I do kind of look older, so I think that I could be Liesl. I have a monologue, but I don't know what song to sing. I can belt a little bit nothing from Wicked of anything like that. However I can belt songs like Because of You and Behind these Hazel Eyes. Otherwise I have a alto voice. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. Check to see if there is a time limit.  You might just do 30 sec. or a minute of a song.  Try Nothing Hurts by Devics or a song from Annie or another play that sounds like the song you are suppose to sing.

  2. yes, do songs from his other musicals. Will there be an acompanist? If so make a CLEAR 16 bar cut and ask him to give you the starting note instead of the intro. Most of all have fun. Noone will hire you if you look like you're bored or in a foul mood. so good luck----oopps. break a leg :^P

  4. You really need to be working with a professional voice teacher, without proper guidance you can actually damage your voice - especially if you try belting without a teacher.

That being said, I would recommend songs similar to "Sixteen Going on Seventeen,"  other pieces by Rodgers and Hammerstein would be best.

    You might try:

People Will Say We're in Love from Oklahoma!

If I Loved You from Carousel

You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel

It Might As Well Be Spring from State Fair

Getting to Know You from The King and I

I Enjoy Being a Girl from Flower Drum Song

    Best of luck!
