Question:

Does anyone know of any unique hobby suggestions?

I'm looking for some unique (aka lesser known or less mainstream) hadicraft type hobbies. I've already tried things like knitting, crocheting, macrame, and sewing (plus a few others) and want to try something new. I am especially interested in crafts that make something useful (I don't do doilies). I also like traditional or old fashioned crafts so it doesn't have to be anything modern. Any help is more than welcome so thank you.

  1. scrapbooking is a great hobby... or jewelry making which is fun! like not the little kid kind with big plastci beads, i mean liek the glass beads and metal beads and proper clips to hold it together

  2. Cross-stitching is just what you're looking for! You can even design your own patterns to sew if you don't want to make any kit-type things!

  3. Casting metal would be a bit different from what you've previously tried.

  4. How about rug braiding?  It is fun, pretty easy to learn, and you produce a very usable item.  It's also a traditional craft and you can produce rugs in the primitive colors and designs or use more contemporary colors and styles.

There is a rug braiders group in YAHOO GROUPS.  Check it out and see if there is something there you find interesting.  There is also a braid-in coming up in October in Maine.  Thanks!

  5. juggling is tons of fun and entertaining to your friends/family...

    how about scrapbooking? that's crafty.

  6. Paper Quilling is very Beautiful. Good for making Cards,Scrapbooking or Frame it. A lot of fun and easy to make ;)))))))

  7. Have you tried cardmaking and scrapbooking? Both are useful and rewarding. For myself, I prefer cardmaking because it is something I can finish quickly. You also do not need any special tools since all you need you should be able to find in the house. You can find out more about cardmaking at  http://www.making-greeting-cards.com

Another hobby I recommend would be jewelry making. Most craft stores now sell jewelry making kits, beads and findings. You can find instructions to start making earrings, bracelets and necklaces from this jewelry site:  http://www.jewelry-making-instructions.c...

    Hope this is helpful.

  8. Try leatherworking and making shoes or something, or paintball (not exactly productive) but it is a fun hobby, boy or girl.
