Does anyone know of any visible tanks or artillery pieces?

When using composite satellite imagery such as Google Earth or Mapquest, are there noticeable locations where military can be seen? Tanks, battalions of infantry, carriers etc?

Yes there are.

Common sense would be to look for military instalations and see what images they provide.

In Google Earth:

1.  32:42:47N 117:10:42W (San Diego) USS Midway, you can pan to the south and see other ships too, as they were when the photo was taken.

2. 35:17:28N 139:39:48E (US Navy Base Yokosuka) USS Kitty Hawk, pan around for more.

Google Earth and look around Ft Knox, Home of the Armour. I'm sure you'll find some surprises, if you look hard enough.
