Does anyone know of any ways to get your music heard by record exec's or other "big" people in the music biz?

Does anyone know anyone or have any addresses where I could send copyrighted music to? Please only list if it's legit and it's someone who really has some decision making ability and authority for a record label....I'm just trying to figure out ways to get my music heard so if you have any other ideas that'd be cool too....thanx

i know this will probably sound pretty lame but im pretty sure that myspace is the way to go.  i read something that over half the bands signed to major record labels were found on myspace which is kind of scary actually.  there is also another website called purevolume.com which is just music (same thing as myspace)  that and just playing out and around town.  get you name out and make as many friends as possible because you never know when you will need a favor
