I have a 6 year old son with autism and I am trying to find funding for him to attend a school for children with special needs, including autism, here in Louisiana that will help him tremendously. I found the perfect school but it is almost $6000 a year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. most schools have scholarship programs to help out. if this one doesn't, then look into your local government. lots of places have grants and the such they can and do give out. i know people thing grants are for college but they help with private or not tax funded schools like the one you want. if this doesn't work, ask your church to start a fund raiser for you. i know it sounds like charity or not wanting to work, but alot of people might be willing to help. You can also always check online for things at autism websites. however, my 7 year old autistic brother tried going to a special needs school and he didn't like it. he is severely autistic. w found that for him, public school was better. he has good teachers and para's and alot of friends (some special needs, some not) if your private school doesn't work out, try your public schools. it may  help.

    Good Luck!

  2. I suspect that you must mean $60,000 per year because $6000 would be a mighty small sum. At any rate, if your child has been in the public school system for one year, they are entitled to the McKay scholarship, which will pay the funds that are paid to the school on your behalf can be used to defray the cost of the program that you want. I suspect that there will be a surplus that you will have to pay yourself, though I don't know how much.

Call your local school district and tell them you would like to apply to the McKay scholarship and do it now so it counts for the fall.

  3. in my state the home school district pays.  If your district does not have an appropriate program-you need to fight them for it--you should have a booklet about Parental Rights in Special Ed.  it describes teh appeals process---and if you win-they school has to reimburse you for your legal fees..

    I assume you mean $60000
