Does anyone know of places that will do apprenticeships?

I'm 27 and Female and am very keen in doing an electrician apprenticeship. However most places only are interested in boys just out of school. I understand this however what about people my age. I'm a hard worker and just looking for that break.

I'm in Cairns and know Ergon our power company is ALWAYS on the lookout for apprenticeship electricians...  I would try for a big company like this that love taking on women.

Can't think of the power company in Brisbane or is it the same?  Go to their website - there would be heaps of info on how to go about it.

The government has put out recently a big promotion on mature age apprenticeships, so I would be surprised if anybody turns you down!.

Now, if you really want to earn the big $ (once you are a trade-women of course) why not go for Avionics?  Electronics on air-crafts.   Maybe worth looking into.  My man has just started this after years as an auto electrician, but pays much more than an average electrician.  Again they LOVE taking on women!  Scholarships will be in favor of you also, plus the government pays for the course which is $20,000 worth.   Basically you are at aviation school for the first year then a job is guaranteed, then the other 3 years of your apprenticeship is in work.  See http://www.aviationaustralia.net.au/ for more info
