  1. Texas A&M and Colorado State University have great ag programs.  I don't know about England or Australia, but Lincoln University in New Zealand is also good.

  2. You do know that the universities have specific types of Ag programs so you need to narrow the searches...I would say the U of Hawaii is interesting because of emphasis on tropics and imported pests/diseases affecting the Islands...but then each reagion has its own programs....suited to its local crops etc....

  3. As mentioned by another responder,

Ag. Universities focus predominantly on what is produced or resources in their state by their resident farmers and industry.

But many in the dept. use model systems.

Are you interested in any particular area?

Are you a student wanting to go to school somewhere?

If so, please let us know.

I am familar with most of the Ag. schools in the U.S.

The term "Best" is often used.

I don't like this term or how it is used, it is very hazy.

Universities and Ag. programs are ranked by a number of factors:

    # of facstaff.

    # of publicatons by their facstaff.

    # of patents or inventions

Total $ in their budget or grants received.

Number of students that apply to their program

Number of collaborators with govt or industry etc.

  4. Depends on what part of agriculture you're interested in.

Kansas State has a very good wheat program and a very good veterinary school as well as Texas A&M. University of Illinois or Iowa for corn and soybean production. Mizzu is a good school too.

  5. Old McDonald's college of farming.

    e i e i o

  6. America = University of Missouri-Columbia

  7. I'd have to say the University of Illinois... They are rated in the top 5 in Agriculture, Math and Science. They really know what they are doing there.

  8. There are 2 amazing Ag uni's in New Zealand if that is of any help - Lincoln (South Island) and Massey (North Island).  Most people support the one they went to (hence me being biased to Massey) but both are great.

  9. With Australia the ones which get jobs are the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne - but they are based in the cities. Four others are based in regional areas have a great reputation but they are not 100% - these are Charles Sturt University, University of Armidale,  Halksbury Agricultural College and Dookie Age College.

But to be honest if you consider Agriculture in Australia you must also be aware that agriculture is on the nose as we are now suffering our sixth year of drought and funding to our courses is on the decline because funding is subject to student numbers - being unpopular reduce the funding available.

Plus if you do stay in Australia, your degree has no more value than a peice of paper because you can do all the jobs that you would be studying for without a degree.
