Does anyone know of the best place to stay in Belize and on which island?

There are a couple of areas that are great.  Ambergris Cay is a short flight away, on Tropic Air, from Belize City.  On the island there are several properties you can check out, depending on what you are looking for.  Try Captain Morgan's(dive), Victoria House(more luxury), Ramons(overall resort), Villas at Banyan Bay(villa style).  Coastally in Belize check out Jaquar Reef and The Inna t Robert's Grove, or Turtle Inn.  You may want to split your time up and go up to the Cayo District for a few days too.  Here I suggest Blancaneaux Lodge.  Have fun!

Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye are two places that are supposed to be nice, although Caulker is VERY low key and some say the beaches there aren't that great.  But I know someone who went and loved it - she's a very "outdoorsy" type, though, so....

You might try TripAdvisor.com for comments from past guests and for the destination guide.  Also try Fodor's and/or Frommer's guidebooks or on-line guides.

I don't know if there is a "best" place to stay in Belize - it all depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend.  In terms of islands, or cayes, I have found Ambergris to be the best and the place that we always stay is Banana Beach Resort - moderate price and good location on the island.
