I'm trying to find information on a town/city called:

Struve or Strupe (or something very similar)

This was a German town/city in 1914, possible near the Russian border at that time. I don't know if it exists anymore, I cannot find anything online and wondered if anyone could help. Thank you.

  1. If it was near the russian boarder in 1914, it nowadays belongs to Poland and has been renamed to a polish name.

The name Struve or Strupe did not exist; maybe you'll find it on the attached list of German - Polish citynames

  2. I can offer you Struppen, a very small town in east Germany, just at the Czech border, so inside Warsaw Pact territory till 1990, but never anywhere near the Russian border.

If the town you are looking for really was near the German-Russian border in 1914, it is not anywhere near Germany today. It will be in either Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, but most probably Poland - in any case, it will have a new name, so it'll be difficult to find.

Of course, if you are not sure whether it was actually inside Germany, but maybe only a German town somewhere in Eastern Europe (like the many in Romania just at the then Russian border) then your search might get even more complicated.

  3. Sub is correct.  Most likely it is part of Poland or similar if it still even exists under the same name, it may have changed its name over these years.

  4. Check out the link LaFeeFan gave you, it is one of the best resources for a search like yours.
