I do not have my papers to work or do not have my certificate to teach english, but I know that people have been in my situation and have still found teaching jobs. What are the first steps I need to to in order to find work? are these positions only available the beginning of the school year? Are there positions available in January?

  1. You need to have a work visa to work in Spain (any city).  If you are US, you had better get crackin' if you want to get that...start at the Spanish consulate or embassy (whichever is closer).

Or you could get a job through one of these oranizations that arrange exchange work...

I know CIEE is good, the others, I have no idea on.  But CIEE works in Seville, not Madrid.  (much better place to live, though, if you ask me).

  2. Here are lots of listings for teaching abroad in Spain. The programs have different requirements, however, most teaching jobs will want you to have your TEFL Certificate in order to teach. Some of these programs will help you complete your TEFL Certification and then place you in jobs. You will have to make specific inquiries to each job provider in order to find out what they require and when their work placements start:

Have a great time in Madrid!
