Question:

Does anyone know....?

I love to be tan. I used to go to the tanning salon but I quit for obvious reasons. So then I became pale, which is very depressing to me. I decided to try spray tanning. Which was awful, orange, streaky, and didn't even last.

So I began buying tanning lotions. Jergens, loreal, and dove all came out streaky. I just don't have the patience to lather my entire body with lotion and take my time to prevent streaks. Then I found a new tanner which had a mousse-like texture. It worked slowly but it was completely streak free and after a few applications it looked great! Then a few days later it started chipping off. So I exfoliated all of off my skin and now I'm back to square 1.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to become tan?! Will everything I do flake off? How can I prevent this?

  1. Try one of the new spray tanning lotions.  Neutrogena makes one, and so do several other brands.  They are pretty foolproof, and you can spray your back yourself too.  If you want to be tan all the time, you will have to make time to maintain it.  I have good luck with the L'Oreal tanning gel in Dark, and I prefer this over other kinds.  I apply it everyday for a week, and then two or three times a week after that to maintain the color.  It takes a good half hour to apply it, blend it, and then let it dry.  The key to a good application is blending until you think you don't have anything left to blend, and then blending again.  To prevent flaking and chipping, you have to moisturize your skin a lot.  If you apply the tanner at night, apply lots of moisturizer in the morning.  I use self-tanner to even out tan lines on my arms and legs, but it's so much work that this year I didn't even bother.  Going to the tanning salon will make your skin very dry and damage it, but if you don't want to maintain a fake tan and you are very depressed when you are fair, maybe you could keep tanning, but cut down on how much you go.

  2. well I think the best you can do is just wear spf 30 and go to the pool it will help you be a more natural tan. Or try the Neutrogena lotion it worked on 5 people I know who tried it

  3. Go swimming, you'll get a gnarly tan...

  4. hey heres a idea...

    try laying in the sun!

it wont cost a dime and your risk of getting skin cancer isn't as high.

  5. Well, sweety, I use fake bake their original tanning lotion, it is expensive on their website but you can log on to Amazon.com and find it much cheaper.   The only down fall is yes, it will stain your clothes, and you have to wash it off.   I apply it at night before I go to sleep and make sure I wear dark clothing as it will stain, it leaves me with a nice tan, and doesnt smell as half as bad as some of the other products I have tried.

You can also go onto Sephora.com they have some products for tanning, they are pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for right?

Please do not bask in the sun too much, it not only can cause cancer, but it ages your skin and as you get older you will get freckles....ALL OVER..not cute little ones might i add.

I think they flake off because youre putting too much on, and stick to one product!
