My fiance has cognac camus XI which was about $90 for a little bottle and for his birthday I want to get him something else that he will like. There usually in cabinets at the liquor store or behind the counter. I'm in Australia if that has any relevance.

Its not wine that im talking about either.

Thank you! I'm not very knowledgeable with anything of this nature.

  1. Pretty much anything locked in a case and selling over $100 or so is most likely going to be pretty good. I always think of different Brandy's, but I can't give you a list. My favorite tequila is Patron which can go for around $60, but thats not exactly extra special

  2. any absinthe, or there are some pretty high priced tequilas out there.

  3. If he likes Tequila, I HIGHLY recommend Patron. I've had the Reposado and it's amazing! You might find these sites interesting!

  4. any one drinking patron really doesn't know quality, germain robaine is a great brandy made in california by a ex cognac maker, el tesoro paradiso is tequila aged in cognac casks, and hardy ecllipse is well worth it although louis 13 is popular it's overpriced for what you get.

  5. depending on what he likes as an exspensive quality taste choice,

liqoure- Absinthe , 2 teaspoon full in whiskey class with water should knock his socks off but dependingon what percentage it is anything from 60 to 90 read the instructions it has been known to cause hallucination. It is an aquired taste and can only be bought in certain country and states. The price can vary from 30 euros to 100, dont know the exchange rate for £, $ thoe. the taste is somewhat anniseedy. Either that or buy ouzo pritty much the same but a lot cheaper around 20 euros , £15,$30

  6. Get him his own barrel of Louis XIII cognac:

It will only set you back a few million quid, and you get a stay in a fancy hotel as part of the package.

Seriously, though, the easiest thing to do would be to go to a specialty liquor store and get something one shelf up.  It sounds what he drinks normally is Camus Superior "XO", which stands for "eXtra Old" (no, really), rather than XI.  You could get him Camus "Borderies XO", which is supposed to be a bit better, "Extra", which is a bit costlier still, or go balls to the wall and get him Jubilee, which will run you about seven or eight hundred plasticbacks, or whatever your slang term for the Ozzie dollar is.

That's the good thing about Cognac, any given bottle is never so expensive you can't find something older and more expensive.

EDIT: Absinthe?  Are you people nuts?  Absinthe is expensive because it's trendy, not because it's made from the finest wines and aged in Limousine oak casks for several years to acquire its flavor like cognac.
