Hi all,

I am having a problem with my hayfever at night. I wake during the night and start sneezing and blowing my nose and I then wake up and can't get back to sleep, it is driving me crazy. I am pregnant at the moment so i don't want to use any medications for it, but I just want to know if anyone had some tips, if there is any oils or good remedies that I can use t help it settle down at night.

Hope you can help.

  1. I advice one Indian Divine Noni for you for Hayfever and it has lot of other benefits also.

Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, causes cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, congestion, sneezing and sinus pressure. But unlike a cold, hay fever isn't caused by a virus — it's caused by an allergic response to indoor or outdoor airborne allergens, such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander. Some people have hay fever year-round. For others, hay fever gets worse at certain times of the year, usually in the spring, summer or fall. One of the most common allergic conditions, hay fever affects about one in five people.

For some people hay fever symptoms are a minor, temporary nuisance. But if your symptoms are more persistent, they can make you miserable and affect your performance at work, school or leisure activities. Finding the right hay fever treatment probably won't completely eliminate your symptoms — but for most people, it makes a big difference.

  2. One of the best methods for helping allergies and hayfever is honey, believe it or not. But it MUST be locally cultivated honey.

Honey contains minute particles of pollen and taking 2 Tbsp. a day from two months before hayfever season can help build up the immune system... The honey needs to be local ( from within a 50 mile radius of your home)  as then it will contain local pollen.

Since we are well into hayfever season, you may not see as terrific results as you would have if you'd have started earlier, however, there's a few other things you can do.

Some Herbs that are used in allergy/asthma treatment are:

Ephedra (Ma huang)- this herb is said to be good for relieving nasal and chest congestion Caution: do not use if you suffer from anxiety, glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia, or depression

Yerba Mate- 2-3 teaspoons in 16 ounces of hot water taken on an empty stomach Stinging Nettle(Urtica dioica)- May effectively relieve allergic nasal symptoms 2 capsules every 15 minutes during an attack, then 4 times a day as a maintenance dose.

Ginger tea- Mix 2 tsp chopped or grated ginger in 2 cups boiling water and simmer for 20 minutes. Breathe in the steam for 5-7 minutes.

Garlic- Eat in generous amounts or take supplements, helps a lot more than allergies is also excellent for your heart!

Parsley- May help with hay fever. It is thought to work by reducing your body's production of histamine

Goldenseal root- strengthens the immune system and aids in the absoption of nutrients Caution: Do not take on a daily basis for more than a week at a time and do not use if you are pregnant or have diabetes, heart problems, glaucoma

Some Vitamins and Supplements that are used in the treatment of allergies/asthma are:

Vitamin C- Good old vitamin C! Its good for just about everything and you cant take too much of it.

Take a natural vitamin C supplement preferably one with bioflavanoids. This vitamin helps protect the body from allergens and moderates the inflammatory response. Calcium and magnesium- May help regulate histamine production

CoQ10- May help counter histamine for asthma and allergy sufferers. Lactobacillus acidophilus, bulgaricus and bifidobacteria- found in yogurt. Fix any imbalances in the intestinal flora that are common among allergy sufferers.

  3. well if your nose is stuffy breathing peppermint or eucalypstus essential oils can do wonders. Goldenseal is also good for hay fever, but I would consult an herbalist before using it while pregnant. Homeopathics are also very safe (again ask an herbalist since you are preg.) Some herb stores sell their own allergy mix. If you are anywhere near Salt Lake City, there is a brand of herbal formulas called "Dr. Christophers".(i think you can get them online) They are 100% trustworthy and Dr. Christopher's son David (who now runs the business and teaches at the Herb School) will be more than happy to help you if you call the store, even if you live across the country. I don't know the number by memory but try dexonline. its in Springville, Utah and its called "Dr. Christopher's Herbal Health" or something like that. If you call and ask he might be able to give you some more names and then you can buy them at your local health food store.
