I'm going to be a summer camp counselor starting next week and I was just informed that I will be working with 3-5 year olds. I know a few games but those are mostly for older kids. Anyone got attention getters, easy crafts, outdoor games...anything?? I need ideas FAST!

  1. finger paint,

make a necklace for Mom . out of corn, seashells, candy etc.

    bob for apples,

    Melt marshmallows and make smores.

    pin tail on donkey,

    make paper mache flowers ,

Color pictures in there own color book.

Write a postcard to send home,

Take their photo and help then make a paper frame or glue stuff on a real frame.

Sing a catchy song and dance everyday.

  2. water days

    make playdough

BUBBLES, make em, blow em, etc.

have themes like ocean week, rodeo week, apples week, etc.

do color walks to look for colors

    SING

    nature walks!

just have fun, and smile a lot!

  3. You can do games that are for slightly older kids. Show them things. Little kids remember practically everything you say.

  4. If you don't mind a little mess, you could finger paint or poster paint.  And bring some board games like Hi-Ho CherryO or something to play.  Animal charades (make animal noises and have them guess), build forts out of blankets, chairs etc..., I Spy, Simon Says, there's the good old HideandSeek, put on a fake wedding, dress up, fun sing a long videos, and hopefully that helped!

  5. i have a three year old and he loves to dance, draw, read and listen to stories.

he can play a couple of games, like simon says and red light, green light.

    he loves trains and spaceships.

he also enjoys dressing up, if you have any costumes.

sock puppets would be pretty cool too.

    good luck!

  6. You could do a treasure hunt using some easily recognizable symbol or shape (think Blue's Clues).  Then, there are the old favorites like Duck, Duck, Goose...Red Rover...Hide and Go Seek...Tag...things like that.  Think back to the fun you had in your childhood and run with whatever you get.

Have fun and be willing to go a little crazy!

  7. Marble painting...get some shoe boxes and line the bottom with paper then put a marble in paint...then shake the box to make the marble roll....kids love it.

Colored sand <Salt>...Get some chalk and small paper plates....pour some salt onto the plate then have the child rub the salt with the chalk.....it takes a while to make a lot...so you might want to make some before....then get some clear plastic cups fill them with different colors....then top it with elmers glue so it covers the total top of the sand.....allow it to dry and then they can give to parents or keep themselves.

I have lots of different ideas if you want to email me i can send you a bunch....

  8. oh simion says, fingerpaint, follow the lader, playdo (but i rather not do that they might eat it!!), ummmmmm........coloring books, barbies, hotwheells ithink thats all good luck!

  9. How about a simple orienteering.  They get a sheet of paper with pictures (tree/stone/leaves/flowers/water....) and they go round trying to spot these things.  When they do, you stick a sticker on their picture. It's great fun, the kids play and fool around but still look for the objects.
