  1. I'm sure that with that kind of so superior up your nose attitude you were well loved in school, Chuck.  LOL

Cannes was a humble fishing village until 1834, when Lord Brougham discovered it and made it the latest in place to reside on the coast, the village became quickly the third biggest city of the department. There's no local custom per se, but ones shared with the rest of that part of the coast.

The pétanque or game of boules (balls) where you throw metal balls as near the small wooden ball called cochonnet (piglet) as you can, hitting the other's balls to push them off.

The pastis, an anise based drink, diluted with water before drinking. Generally five volumes of water for one volume of pastis, served cold, to sip while discussing with friends in the shade.

The film festival. Local custom is to hide until it is over.

  2. Yes, I can help, I went to school there.

They drink alot of wine. They don't realize that they are second world and have massive insecurity problems.

Make them feel special and powerful, because they yern for the days of Napolean, which is not going to happen.

Tell them you are Canadian because they are very jealous of Americans.

Try and learn some of their language, even though nobody uses it throughout the world, they think it's important.

It's a very cool place but dealing with the egos there is a major pain.

Just make them think that you think that they are special and powerful and you'll get along.

  3. they are very chic people, usually upper class.

they love wine and enjoy their food - traditional 3 course meals.

they are more kickback, which allows them to live with less stress (maybe thats why they live longer?) which is why you will notice that all the shops, etc. are closed on sundays and also everyday from 12 to about 2:30  because they take time having their lunch. which means you cant get a lot done if you wake up late!

    smoking is a huge thing.

beaches and yachts are also a huge thing.

the older people: go golfing, have chic  stand-up cocktail partys, play petanque - which was described.... , and travel.

the youth go shopping on the Rue d'antibes and go to the many clubs at night.

seeing perfectly groomed dogs around is common.

seeing pruney, copper-tanned old ladies is common.( they can usually be babbling on complaining about things like bad weather. ;)  )

there is nooo air condition in many places, but you can get used to it.

there is a tourist overflow in cannes during the summer, so beware!

    you'll love cannes though.
