Sales reps came to my house today and offerd an accidental policy. It looks quite good, but I'm not sure if it's true.

  2. Combined Insurance Company of America is what they used to be called.  I once had an accident policy form my and my family, and when my daughter broke her leg, we got over £1000.00 for her being in hospital and the break itself.  They are ok but you could probably get a policy through your bank for less money, or even try Bupa/HSA if you are serious about getting a policy.

  3. Watch out if that's 'CICA'  (Combined Insurance Company of America) you're referring to.  They're not necessarily doing anything wrong, but, if you sign up, you'll never get them off your back.

I got suckered in by them about 30 years ago with an accident policy that turned out to be non-cancellable - you can't get out of it.  They'll keep coming back, pushing you to 'up' the semi-annual premium, and then push you to buy more and more insurance.

I've been coerced into signing up for insurance that I didn't want, just to get rid of the rep,  only to cancel it next day, under the "14 day cooling off period" rule.

They use very pushy sales personnel, and they take some getting rid of.  I learnt very quickly to tell them, and to keep repeating, "I'm not interested".  I've had them here for over four hours, pushing and badgering me to buy more.

Eventually, after I'd refused for several years, to increase my premium, they stopped calling to collect it.  It reached the point where it was costing them more to collect the premium, than it was worth.

Also, their claims procedure is extremely cumbersome and cleverly worded to deter you from pursuing a claim.  In short, it's almost impossible to get them to pay out, - I've never been able to get a penny out of them.

Unless they've changed their tactics, tamed their sales reps and improved their 'service' I'd say    -   STEER CLEAR.!!
