Question:

Does anyone know something which may improve the flow of the lymphatic system? (Lymphedema patient here)?

I suffer from primary lymphedema, and I wanted to know if there were any foods I should eat (or avoid) that may decrease my swelling, or any supplement I could take to help. I have tried glyconutrients (although I belive the glycos to be, by and large, a scam now) and multi mineral vitamins. Drinking black tea seems to help a little, but only if I am not very active.

  1. Learning a good tai chi or chi gung form is the best thing you could possibly do (although a bad one might be fairly worthless).  If you have any interest in pursuing that approach, get back to me and I'll try to come up with the best specific form for your case, along with a person to learn it from in your area.

    Hope that helps!

  2. Hope you'll find this site helpful

    Good Luck

  3. I've used vitamins from this website: http://drjanetangel.mitamins.info/ for various things and had lots of luck.  Dr. Angel is really nice, and if you email her with what you're trying to treat, she's always got great recommendations, and can do custom vitamin orders for you.

I hope she's got something that will help you!

  4. Hace you tried swedish massage? not deep tissue, but effleurage. it is a light touch that starts at the end of extremities working toward your lymph node clusters( armpits and groin). Afterward drink water and it will help flush the 'yucky' away.

  5. I would suggest seeing someone trained in manual lymph drainage massage. It speeds up your lymph system immediately and it stays sped up for a while (how long depends on your body) Mine stayed sped up for at least a month. Sorry I'm not much help with the food thing, apple juice is good for the lymph system and a tea blend called detox is good too. A lot of things previous answers were talking about would be addressed in a lymph massage. We had to thoroughly study the lymph system and learned the flows. You can actually feel it working during the massage. Some massage therapists are trained in it but not all. You might be able to find a therapist in your area or more info in general about lymph massage at upledger.com Good luck and best wishes!

  6. If you jog on a small trampoleen, even small bouncing it helps pump the lymp system.

  7. Aside from massaging (which is only temporary when you have a condition, of course), there are a few herbs you could try. The biggest herbs that support fluid balance (including water retention) would be certain varieties of Yellow Sweet Clover (especially because it helps support the Lymphatic system and fluid drainage, the LymphaSelect brand is one of the most well known ones), Buchu Leaves, and Parsley (both of which help to maintain a healthy water balance). You can probably find some sort of Water Pill at your local healthfood store, but LMK if you can't and I can point out a few good companies.

  8. i don't know of anything you could ingest, but foot pumping helps my mother. have someone use both hands on at the top and one at the bottom of your foot, and firmly push it towards your leg then firmly in the other direction. it usually takes mom about ten pumps per foot. you will feel it work immediately! :) hope this helps you!
