  1. The two largest have been the use of computers being integrated into the process and the use of digital cameras for filming. Previously since the inception of film stop motion animators had to animate blind, meaning they had no sort of preview system. They would simply move their characters, and capture a frame with a film or camcorder camera with only their memory and their own sense of timing and experience guiding them. Only once the film was processed could they see what the animation looked like. With stop motion software, it has made it easier to have live feeds, live feeds with onion skinning, quick renders and previews of the motion, easy editing and manipulating of individual frames all within one software. Also, digital effects have also become a large part of any film's post-production, whether it be live action or animated.

Large studios have also been trying to use digital cameras to film stop motion to capture frames in hi-def resolutions.
