Does anyone know the South African exchange rate compared to the US dollar? Is this a rate that benefits US?

  1. 1 South African Rand is 13.2 American cents. Yes, this is very beneficial to the United States. You might not get as much tourists from South Africa, but your money is worth more there.

    A few years ago, South African Rand used to be a lot lower against the US dollar than it is now.  

    When South Africans import manufactured things from USA. Then South Africans benefit from their higher currency relative to the US dollar.  And when South Africans sell manufactured things to USA.  Then they get paid in cheap US dollars, which is not so good for them.

    But some commodities such as diamonds, gold, and other precious metals have a value of their own independent of any currency.  And the exchange rate doesn't really matter, when a country like South Africa sells these commodities on world markets.
