  1. Let me get this straight. First, you say "in one at-bat." Then you define "a complete at-bat." Finally you say you shouldn't have said "one at-bat."

You have certainly done an excellent job of confusing not only everyone here, but yourself as well.

The obvious answer to the original question is six. But with all the edits, anything is possible. I suggest you think about it, discuss it with your instructor friends, come up with wording that can be understood, and re-post it in a few days.

  2. 11:  3-2 count, runner thrown out stealing with 2 outs, batter leads off next inning, runs up 3-2 count, next pitch is catchers interference

Technically, it's infinite.  If a ball is ruled dead during a pitch due to a balk, upire's time out, spectators on the field, the pitches can keep on coming, although they don't count

  3. squeakyw is right you have a 2-2 count and then the 5th pitch is ball3 but the runner is thrown out, then the next inning he is leading off and runs up the count to 3-2 and then puts the ball in play on the next pitch, therefore (5+5+1)=11.

  4. 5? You didn't word it very well but I think what you're saying is how high the count can go? If so it's 3-2 which is 5 piches.

  5. huh..how about 5

  6. One. Catchers interference and then they awarded first base.

  7. 3??

  8. 5

  9. 6

  10. 3 strikes, 4 balls, so 7

  11. 0

  12. 6 you can either get 3 balls and 3 strikes or 4balls and 2 strikes

  13. 6... because on the 6th pitch they will either walk (ball 4) or strike out (strike 3)

That's why 3-2 is called a "full count"... 3 balls and 2 strikes. The next pitch would decide the outcome of the at bat, UNLESS the batter fouls it off. But in this case you said without fouling any off, so your answer is 6 pitches maximum.  As far as getting a hit though, someone can get a hit anytime... first pitch, second pitch, etc. But the same goes for that. If they don't foul any off, the most pitches they could see before getting a hit (including the one the hit comes from) would be 6.

  14. 10 the batter is in a full count then a runner gets picked off for the third out so the next inning his at bat continues and he gets another full count.

  15. five because you can have two strikes and three ball after that you either walk or strike out

  16. You've tricked yourself, apparently, if you're looking for the ol' 3-1 count with two outs with Strike 2 pitched and a runner caught stealing, batter comes up next inning and sees six pitches, for 11 pitches.

This is what happens when people who don't understand the rules try to trick others.

The at-bat in the previous inning never happened, by rule. And the batter's coming back up to start the next inning is not a continuation of the previous at-bat. So the answer is six.

  17. I've been watching and playing baseball for a long time...can't wait to see someone explain this.

As far as I know if nothing is fouled off, the sixth pitch decides it.

  18. The hitter gets a full count and a runner gets picked off with 2 outs. His at-bat continues the next inning and he gets another full count. 3+2+3+2=10.

I'm pretty sure I had it before Sunny and he just changed his answer.

  19. The count is 3-2, runner gets picked off, inning over. Next inning batter again goes 3-2 - so you're right, its 10.

  20. 10

batter goes to a 3-2 count.  (five pitches)

Runner gets picked off or caught stealing to end the inning.

Batter resumes his at bat the next inning with a new count, goes to 3-2 again (five more pitches, total=10)

  21. Gotta be 6

    2 strikes and 4 balls or a hit on a 3-2 count.

  22. 6 Pitches

You would get to your maximum count

    2 Strikes

    3 Balls

The next pitch will produce one of the outcomes above.
