Does anyone know the average cost of one of those large dome telescopes located on mountains?

Does anyone know how much dome telescopes that are located on mountain tops cost on average? If i ever become rich, i would definetely construct one for myself, i was just wondering what they cost on average.

  1. groundbreaking to first light is about 150 million dollars for something the size of gemini north or keck. check their web pages. it's difficult to be more specific, since most of the big observatories are built by large consortia who share the cost.

    i hope someday to build an observatory of my own. my budget is more on the order of 30 thousand dollars, plus the land to put it on.

    in the '50s.  the equivalent today would be in excess of 1billion dollars

    this doesn't include facilities and buildings.

    the small (30")telescope on mt.Wilson originally cost over $300.000.00
