  1. If it's a professional show (Equity) it will probably take about 8 hours - or maybe a little longer.  There will, of course be lots of breaks - because the union requires them to happen.

  2. In most small venues, a READING usually happens shortly after casting is completed. A kind of meeting of the characters, initial knowledge of the script, interactions with others in the cast, and a sense of the set.

This might happen within a month before opening.

During that time, rehearsals could be daily, but usually not 7 days a week. Singing parts often have breaks of a day to rest the "pipes".

Rehearsals are never an 8 hour shift. That would be unproductive,,, BUT they can last as long as 6, in two shifts in a single day. During that time, and initially, the actors are Blocked, sets may or may not include set pieces or scenery. Props should be available immediately, reading lines might be allowed for a day or two, then prompting from an SM, or ASM may be a grace, BUT the actor should be STUDYING, even off rehearsal, until they know the part, like they know their own name. Dress rehearsals might happen as far out as a week before curtain.

    Just my 2 "Scents"

For Film, you can disregard anything I've said, in a general sense.

  3. Rehearsals vary depending on the type of rehearsal.

Readings are relatively short. Usually they will be shorter than the actual play will run.

Normal rehearsals, as mentioned before, will usually be around 8 hours. These run (usually) like a normal work day 8 - 5 or 10 - 7.. etc.

Getting into run throughs with crew/lights/set/sound/costumes will be a whole different monster. This varies from theater to theater. When I worked at a regional theater we worked 8 to 10 hours a day.  12 - 12, 1 - 1, etc.

All rehearsals will have mandatory breaks and meal periods. You should read up on the Actor's Equity rules.

These rules ONLY apply to actors. If you are on a crew of some sort your call times will vary COMPLETELY.

    Hope that helps!

  4. I think that at average it may take atleast 8 hours a day for

a professional theatre rehaearsal for  programme.
