I know it's a random question, but i hate cleaning my room! It just takes so long. And don't say I should do it for my own benefits or something like that.

  1. Hmmm, the highest motivator I ever get to do housework is when I have studying to do!  It seems when you have to study you get all this motivation to do other things - even cleaning your room!

Inviting someone over also puts me into overdrive and its amazing how much tidying you can do in the 15 minutes it takes for your guest to arrive!

Other than that, it is just one of those things we all have to do.  I can empathise with your situation, but that won't get you motivated!

  2. Sweetie, "any one can eat an elephant.  One bite at a time" Rena Tarbet, Mary Kay seminar.  (I don't want to be a pink lady ever again, but they did have some good knowledge.)

Don't just walk by it for the Nth time, pick it up...make small piles, put them away....do what you hate doing first, leave the "like it" stuff for later.  Then look back on your accomplishment with pride.  "I did that" feeling, autonomy, beautiful.

You want to come help me clean and mow the yard?  Riding and self propelled mowers, you know you want to....kidding

    have fun.

Chris is correct!!!  Music!!   "Stadium Arcadium" RHCP, "Jupiter" CD, dare you not to move and clean to that.

  3. FIND A PICTURE OF A ROOM YOU LIKE IN A MAGAZINE, PIN IT ON  YOUR WALL. THEN, MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU'D LIKE SOMEONE TO DO, IF YOU HAD A MAID..... GO GET A CUP OF COFFEE THEN COME BACK AND LOOK AT THE LIST, GIVE YOUR SELF AN HOUR TO WORK. THEN START AT THE TOP OF THE LIST.

IN ONE HOUR, YOU'LL BE AMAZED HOW MUCH OF THE LIST YOU'LL GET DONE.  WHEN IT'S ALL DONE LOOK AT THE PICTURE AGAIN AND SEE IF YOUR ROOM COMPARES TO IT .OR IS IT BETTER?

  4. Break down the project into small steps.  Start with one small area, like the top of the nightstand and clean that off.  That seemed easy, and It looks good, now doesn't it?  Resolve to keep that area clean.  Move on to the next thing.  Move stuff out that really doesn't belong there.  Get things off the floor.  Less stuff in the room makes a room easier to clean.  Also, it isn't always easy to keep the room cleaner all the time, but when it is, it is easier to do a quick clean with less work when friends come over etc.

  5. The thing that usually helps me is putting on some really upbeat music, it gets me energized and starts me moving around, before i know it i am cleaning the house :)
