For P&C, auto, home, etc go with the big carriers, State Farm, Allstate,etc. For life & Health the best way is to find an independent broker you feel comfortable with. Since a broker represents many different companies they have already done the research for you and wil be able to tell you which companies will best fit your specific situation.

I suggest using yellowpages.com tosearch for brokers in your area and call a few to see what kind of vibe you get. If the broker does not ask you questions about your specific situation and needs mooce on the next one.
