I have been off work for 18 months on long term sick leave. I know its probably dependent on the company but I have heard that after a certain amount of time you can get paid off on medical grounds. I have been paid out on a phi scheme that pays me part of my salary

  1. It all depends on the chances of you going back to work .. 18months to 3 years should be long enough for them to decide if there is any chance you will ever recover ..

If the Company Doctor agrees there is little or no chance of you ever returning to work, then (assuming you are in the Company Pension Scheme) most large Companies will have some process that allows them to make you 'medically retired' ...

What you get by way of a Pension depends on the rules of the scheme, however it is not unheard of for some-one to end up on 2/3rds salary ..
