I remember a Fisher Price one - the dog's body was white, brown and black and was made of wood.  It had red plastic wheels for legs and a springy tail.  Its name was Little Snoopy but he looked NOTHING like Snoopy from the Peanuts.

Or was is a bloodhound with a Sherlock Holmes cap - I think his name was Diggity Dog?
