  1. Yes

  2. Hojack Line, Reading Railroad, Baltimore and Ohio, Southern Pacific, Northern Pacific, Union, etc.

  3. amtrak

    metro

  4. Indeed, Amtrak is the nation's passenger rail carrier although there are several commuter rail lines which offer regional service throughout the country like SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority), BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority), NJ Transit (New Jersey Transit), MARC (Maryland's passenger rail carrier), and the list goes on...

  5. I AGREE AMTRACK THE BIGGEST I CONCURR LOL

  6. As others point out... Amtrak is the only inter-state rail, and is federally subsidized.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have California Amtrak, CalTrain ( http://www.caltrain.com/ ), and ACE ( http://www.acerail.com/ ) for commuter / passenger use.

There are also a half dozen "tourist" railroads that do short trips or dinner trips:

  7. Amtrak's the big one. But there are also smaller ones for commuters. In the New York area, there's the Long Island Railroad and MetroNorth, there are PATH trains that go from NYC to New Jersey and from there you can take another line, I think it's called New Jersey Transit, but I'm not sure . . . .

  8. amtrack
