  1. the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics keeps track of that

  2. bout .70

  3. Whilst it's not exactly the answer you want.

Have  look at this site: http://www.measuringworth.com/ukcompare/

It will give you comparative values for any given year.

Can't be sure but about £1.69 a gallon comes to mind (didn't sell it in litres then) that would be about 38p per litre.

  4. I bought a new motorcycle around then a Yamaha 250 on a "P" registered plate  UK that is. In fact i used to date a girl, who became a wife who worked in a local fuel station part time, then 4 star fuel from a Burmah Petrol station, (don't see them anymore! although it was an Amoco colour emblem, probably the same) was roughly 0.75p to 0.85p per gallon!!  OMG  I know, still I suppose wages were a lot lower as well.  LOL

  5. When I bought my first Motorcycle in 1966 brand name petrol, Shell, BP etc was 5 shillings and 2 pence per gallon the off brands, Jet Conoco etc was 4 shillings and 11 pence. This was in the UK

  6. about $.76 in NY

  7. The link helps explain the underlying reasons for the prices (because it is all linked to the price of crude plus whatever taxes your country uses).  Also be careful of not mixing real and nominal prices.  If you want to compare then and now you need the prices in real terms.  It was about $0.60 (nominal) which is nearly $2 in real terms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_us...
