Does anyone know the significance of the title of "Johnny Got His Gun?" I need help?

I have to finish my packet and I'm not really positive of the title significance. any thoughts would help.

    You have to take it in the context of the time. "Johnny got his gun," was the same as saying "Johnny went to war." Look what happened to Johnny. He got blown to S***. He was left in a living h**l. That's the point of the film. It's anti-war.


  2. The major slogan for World War I was, "Johnny Get Your Gun." Johnny was a generic, catch-all name for any male who was capable of serving, and this was a rallying call. Joe Bonham did serve, which would make him a "Johnny."

    What Trumbo is saying by the title he chose, in light of the story, is "Johnny got his gun [meaning, he went to fight] and look what happened to him!"
