  1. Well first of all, if you were taking them to help you not get the headaches and your headache stopped then I have to wonder why you stopped taking them......they were working. Maybe I misunderstood your question. Second, you should never stop taking that type of medication without the consent of your doctor because you probably needed to taper off the medication. Third,Amitriptyline is classified as an antidepressant even though it is used for many other things. That could be the reason you are feeling down and depressed with some suicidal thoughts. Coming off an antidepressant suddenly is very dangerous and can definitely cause you to have all the symptoms you have listed. You really need to talk to your doctor. It sounded like the medication was working. Sometimes when we start feeling better we think we don't need the medication anymore but we are actually feeling better because the medication is working. I would suggest that you get back on the medication. It will take a couple of weeks for it to get back to a therapeutic level in your body but the quicker you get back on the dose your doctor prescribed for you then the quicker you will get back to feeling like you did before you stopped taking them. I hope you feel better soon.

  2. Stopping them can effect your health, specifically more your mental health. As it´s a drug commonly associated with depression and bi-polar disorders, stopping the drug will effect the balance of chemicals in your body. The problem is that people feel so much better on them, that they decide they don´t need them anymore. The only person who could make this decision is your doctor.

My friend was on them for a while (until his condition deteriorated and changed medication only at the consent of his doctor). Amitripylene are actually the safest thing to use in most cases because the side-effects are well known and not very dangerous.

My advice to you is to talk to your doctor about getting back on them slowly and next time you want to come off them, consult your doctor again as you may need "weaned" off to avoid such effects again.

  3. Amitriptylene can be used to treat depression as well as other things, it is a sedative and used when experiencing sleeplessness. Stopping any medication without consulting your doctor is not a good idea. You can experience more side effects doing this.

your headaches may be a symptom of  depression and the fact that you didn't have them is an indication the tablets were working.

    Speak to you doctor.

    Good luck
