Does anyone know this kids telly program?

What I can vaguely remember about it was it was a manga and it had a little boy with a huge talking hammer and they were best friends or something and he travelled with his family(?)

I may have got the travelling part wrong.

And I think it was shown on BBC2 weekday at around 8am during 2001/2002

Does anyone know it?
