Does anyone know this type of valley?

It is like a crater that is flat in the middle and sloped at the sides. The slopes have trees on.

Here is a simple pic of it:

The valley/plain is a complete circle like a crater.

On the bottom picture it is from the top looking down. The darker colour represents a lower area.

It is very flat on the ground, and the slopes normally have trees.

The top picture is a cross section.

Were can I get a picture and locations for it? Does it have a special name?

  1. Valley is a longitudinal one. A circular depression is not a valley not even a normal lake. It can be called a depression or pond; if sure of the association of a volcano, is a 'crater lake'.

  2. It is called a U-Shaped Valley

You are bound to find them in National Parks or in the Highlands.

    :)

  3. This is an example of a U shaped Valley, created by glaciers, as a glacier moves through an area of land, it's own weight digs out this area of land, as it recedes it leaves behind it's 'footprint'. The best example of a U Shaped Valley, or 'glacial' valley as some geologists call them, is Yosemite National Park, specifically Yosemite Valley.
