  1. (Posted from a similar topic)

    1) go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the downloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

    Worked for me

  2. .bin files, unlike other files such as .exe, .wpd, .doc, .xls etc don't have an actual program used to open them specifically. A .bin file is sort of a universal file for binary file. So it can be anything from a rom for an emulator, to image/sound data for a game.

There are a few widely used utilizations for .bin files. One of them is CD images. It is similar to an ISO image. Usually a .bin file will also require a .cue file that goes with it. Programs such as Alcohol 120%, ISO Buster, Nero (etc) can open these.

AVG (and possibly other Avs) use them, windows uses them (ex: mib.bin which appears to be for SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). I even found a bin file in my printer's driver directory. So they're used pretty much everywhere and can be looked at in the same way as a file with no extension, which has multiple purposes. The main reason each program won't just come up with their own is probably to avoid using extensions that are used by other programs. So "less important" binary files are usually just named .bin to avoid hassle.

try reinstalling AVG if some of the AVG files are missing in order for AVG to work properly.

but yeah, the above is what .bion files are

  3. I came across the same problem but got it sorted.

    1 - Start up AVG,click Update Now.

2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.

3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iav... - because this is causing the problem.

4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

PS I only downloaded and updated the last two on the list, including the 'bad one', and then installed using the above procedure.  Update successful!

  4. .bin files are used with .cue files to play media.  This means you probably have a .cue file but do not have the .bin file to go along with it.  If you want a media player to play those files, look up VLC media player in google; this should not affect performance of your computer at all, it should just not allow you to play the specified media file.
