I was out at night where I work security, doing my rounds, when I shown my flashlight about. About fifty yards away was this pair of dark blue eyes. The height of this animal was from about the height of a large dog to that of perhaps a short person. Whatever it was was looking right at me. I'm really curious as to what this animal was. All input is appreciated.

  1. Just as human eyes reflect red in photographs because of the structure of the human retina, cats' eyes will reflect a green, and dogs' eyes will reflect the blue that you saw. It has something to do with the tapetum lucidum in the eye and with dogs you can get red, blue, green, or an odd orange reflection depending on the light source and breed of the dog as well.

  2. i know a raccoon eyes glow but they also attack be careful of animals at night , and also wild dog especially if you live in eastern long island, but it sounds like a wild dog to me or a cat , they like to go in the garbage a night so make sure you put a lid on the garbage a night and not just a plastic bag because they break it i saw it being done if u put a lid on ur garbage then they wont come back

  3. It is because of a certain part of the eye not shutting fast enough when one takes a picture, thus what you are seeing is the relflection of your own camera flash. It is the same as some people's eyes appearing red on photos, others don't. Some have the part of the eye (do not know what the part is called, sorry) shut fast, others do not.

  4. It could have been most anything. The part of they eye you saw "glowing" is a part of the retina called the tapidum lucidum it reflects light back on the cones and rods allowing the animal to make better use of what light is available allowing them to see better in the dark. Most all animals have them with the exception of pigs, camels and a few others. Sorry I cant help tell you exactly what it is but now you know what it was that you saw and what it was not.

  5. it was a wild dog or a wolf.
