Question:

Does anyone know what breed this pony is?

My friend rescued and trained this pony last year, she's now showing her and doing quite well.

She's loves her pony to death but she has no idea what breed she is, due to her previous owner. But she's like to know for future references.

From the picture, can anyone tell?

  1. Any chance you have a side pic?

To the poster who said she might be a POA.  She might be a POA but POAs are a breed... not just any mixed breed pony!

    http://www.poac.org/breed/index.htm

Edit:  I don't think she's Welsh but I could get a better idea from a side pic.

  2. To everyone who apparently has no idea what a POA is (save for a few who posted on this), its short for Pony of the America's, and in coloration wise is a pony-sized appaloosa. It HAS to be an appy coloring, or else it isn't a POA. However, some appaloosa's can be solids. One of my friends has a registered appaloosa gelding who's 14 this year, and is yet to have a spot of color on him.

Looks to me like a small connemara cross, from her chest size and face. And if she has a dorsal stripe, she isn't a buckskin, she's a dun. However her muzzle and eye area does look exceptionally light, so maybe a cremello/grulla was in her lineage.

  3. If she has a dorsal stripe, she's a dun, not a buckskin.  She's got a dilution gene expressed by her lack of pigmentation.  Her points should be black or at least much darker.  Except for her mane and tail coloration, I'd call her a cremello.

She doesn't have a wide chest as in QH.  Could be a Mustang X QH ?

I like her head and facial expression, kind eye, intelligent look.  Would love to see a better picture.

If your friend really wants to know, she can get a DNA test kit from the University of Kentucky, cost is $40 or $50.

  4. Welsh pony mix probably, could be many things.

  5. It looks like a buckskin, which could mean it is a quarter horse/ pony mix.  It also doesn't look as small as a shetland, so it qualifies as a P.O.A.  Which is just a pony.  P.O.A's can be part Appaloosas, paints, thoroughbreds, anything really.

    GOOD LUCK!

  6. No, I am sorry, she is not a buckskin.  Buckskin color charteristics include black points on the leg, just google images buckskin horse and have a look.  every horse has black "Socks"

She def. is Grullo in color

as for her breed, she looks stocky so maybe a Quarter Pony cross.

Possibly crossed with a Connemara pony.

    or Newfoundland

To the one Poster-a POA is appaloosa colored.

Back to other possible breeds, I see some Welara in her.

EDIT--To The girl who leaseda POA...By breed standards it COULD NOT OF BEEN A POA!

IF you read the breed standards ANYWHERE It will tel lyou that they have to have visable appy coloring from 40 feet away, mottled skin somewhere,  and striped hooves, if it didn't then it was not pure bred.  Jeez people, please educate your selves on breeds.

  7. She doesn't have a "specific" breed look..but perhaps a cross between one of the smaller Welsh section ponies..she has more of a refined rather than a stockiness to her..

As far as color..she is not a Palomino (and to the poster above, Palomino is a color breed and not a bloodline breed)but you mean there are no Palomino's in Canada??  What does living in Canada have to do with color?  Also, she is not a buckskin either as I believe a true buckskin has black points on the legs..she looks more like a Cremello or a Gruello...her muzzle is very light.  Does she have a dorsal stripe?

Cute pony though!!  Your friend did a great thing by rescuing her!!

    ***EDIT***

I was just commenting on what you wrote which was....

"She's definatley not a palimino since we live in Canada "

I was agreeing that a PalOmino was a color breed if you read what I wrote...

Back to breeds..perhaps a New Foundland cross...as their registry is in Canada and they are a mixture of many pony breeds rolled into one!!

  8. beats me on the breed, but she looks dun colored to me.

  9. Oh my goodness she's adorable!!! Awhhh.

I'm not really sure if this breed is in Canada... BUT... she looks to me like a POA (Pony of Americas). I used to lease one that was a buckskin, plus the size and shape of this pony really reminds me of the one I had for a while. That's all I could immediately think of..

** And yes my POA wasn't an appy..

  10. Without the stockiness of a Quarter Horse. In her legs it looks like she may be of  Arab mix. Although, with some work out she may build muscles in the chest area, and fill out a little more!

But she is so gorgeous. I am also looking for a Welsh pony. My Paint Mare is expecting and my other paint is to young to train at this time.

As for for the color. Could that perhaps be a dun?

The one Horse I still have not ever had the chance to owned one yet!

This is my opinion, but I would like to do some research on the Web. Please check out the Web_Site below. I see a pony jumping that looks just like yours!

The second one to the left! Of the page.

    WELSH PONIES & COBS

  11. If you've got a side pic you can get a better look of her conformation which may help figuring out what breeding she may have in her.

By the pic you're supplied though she doesn't look to be a pure breed of anything, more a mix of a couple of breeds, possibly some welsh? Not too sure to be honest.

She looks like a lovely pony though.

  12. She's got a unique color even for a buckskin and because of that and her face/head I immediately thought Norwegian Fjord cross, except she's not nearly as bulky.  Idk, she could just be a heinze 57, she's a beautiful little pony though!

  13. My guess is a welsh cross because of her refined 'Welshy' looking head.

  14. palamino??
