Does anyone know what catalyst is used in cracking? and what the reaction would look like?

  1. Catalytic cracking has used alumina (aluminum oxide, Al2O3) as the catalyst. It works by lowering the energy required to cleave C-C bonds when the larger hydrocarbon molecules are adsorbed on the surface of the alumina particles.

    More recently, catalytic cracking processes use what are called 'zeolytes', which are essentially purifed forms of clay.

    Not sure what you mean by 'what the reaction would look like'...
