Does anyone know what is going on with my car?

Okay, so I have a 04' Kia Spectra. Well, when I go to fill up the tank after about a gallon or so the gas will start to sputter out of the tank. The tank is not full what so ever so that is not the case. I have been able to fill it half way but that is as much as I can get. It takes a while just to get it to that point when filling up. Does anyone have any clue as what could be going on? Or what could be going on?

  1. The gas tanks in those Kia's are pretty small ( 10 to 12 gallons at the most ). Use the slow delivery on the handle...the only thing I can see is you might be putting it in too fast. If you finish filling the tank and your gas gauge only shows half full...then perhaps your gauge is defective. You can take it in to dealer ( if still in warranty ) and have them look at it....the only other thing to do is carry a small can of gas and run the tank dry. I don't like carrying gas containers in my car because of the danger...but that may be the only way you can check your gauge.

  2. Slow down your rate of fill and see if the problem stops or gets a bit better.  If it does, I would guess the gas tank vent is plugged.

  3. What Ray L said.

  4. Your gas tank, needs changing. I dont know have it checked out,

  5. It sounds like the vent valve is blocked. Alls tanks have an air vent for exactly the reason you described.
