  1. By Law the working minimum temperature MUST be 16c within one hour of starting work.

  2. There are certain exceptions, but the majority of workers are covered by the "Health ans asfety at work act 1974" - see link.

There is no upper limits unfortunately, but the lowest temperature must be 16 degreec Celcius or above 1 hour after work starts.

Seating must be provided if the work can be done whilst sitting, and other workers benefits (like lunch areas) are included.

If the temperature is below this for product reasons, then "suitable clothing" is to be issed -free. It is part of your PPE (personal protective equipment)

If he has time off work because of an illness caused by the working environment, he needs to state that on the SSP form when he returns.

It is Law, and any breach must be notified to the person and area indicated on the notice which has to be prominently displayed in the workplace.

  3. There is, actually, an upper limit, prescribed by the "elf 'n safety" people, which has been around since the mid 80's.

It might be advisory, but in 1989, we were regularly closed down in our offices, when the temperature went above 21 deg. and our aircon was on the blink.

The actual advisory limits are 13-30deg. C. This is dependent on humidity and the provision of protective clothing, or aircon.

  4. 61degrees

  5. Good Question My son works in a store that is freezing most the time He has had two colds and flu since starting there. I like to know if they are breaking the law. But what about people who work outside

  6. There is no upper working temperature regulation.

The lower temperature should be no lower than 16c
