Does anyone know what it means on the treble clef when a note has lines going both ways?

I'm relearning to read piano music and Im currently messing with Ode to Joy, and I don't quite know what it means when the G note on the treble clef has a line going both up and down out of it? anyone know?

  1. its a unison note played by two parts/instruments,....play it normally with whichever hand is most comfortable!!!!


  2. since piano parts can have many voices (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass) going on at the same time, this means that two of the parts are playing the same note and that's why that G has a note going up and down (most likely the alto and tenor in this case).

  3. You should put a pic up here. because i play the flute and they both have the same notes. so i could help u with a picture.

  4. usually it means a split part is playing the same note.

    it shouldn't be played any differently than a normal note, i dont think.
