I know it's a lot of hard work and time. I'm a hard core band geek though and I'm like super dedicated. I need to know if it's worth it though. I really want to do it I'm just not sure what it's going to be like. I play the flute.

  1. It's sticky, and hard. It takes time getting used to, and then it's like  a sort of fun cult. LOL

you make a LOT of friends, i promise, and it's great. Coming from a senior to be full-time band member, Low Brass section leader, and band president (as well as class clown)

    You won't ever regret it

  2. I think this explains it well:

  3. Hello fellow band geek,

In my experience, marching band is very......

hard, fun, complicated, stressful, hot, embarassing, exciting.

The practicing in the hundred degree weather sucks quite a bit, but when you get fitted for your uniform and put that baby on, the practice was all worth it. I expecially love the half time football shows where all eyes are on you and all ears are tuned in to your wonderful music sounds. I have marching band practice in a couple weeks...again, and I love it.

If you don't know anyone, that's okay. You are placed in order by name or whatever. I made new friends, and trust me, band geeks aren't always geeks. There are pretty hot people there.

    Have fun yo!

  4. It's so much fun! Yes, it is a lot of work, especially if your band is like mine and you have to high step. I would recommend being in shape before you start and to memorize you music. The bulk of marching band is really having fun. At football games you just sit there and do random stuff. There is also the trips. Those are the best. You do minimal music related things and get to meet other bands and hang around where ever you go. I met some amazing people in Marching Band and you get to know everybody really well. You should join!

  5. marching band is the ultimate band geek activity! if your a hard core band geek and super dedicated, you should be right at home. i know it sounds really cheesy, but marching band really is like family. my band program practices all the time, and we're together all the time, and we argue all the time, but we still love each other.

the football games are the greatest! you have so much fun, and forget the cheerleaders, its all about the marching band! the band is what keeps the school spirit, and the band has the most fun at football games. you'll have so much fun, and you'll find its totally worth the time, sweat and dedication. good luck!

  6. marching band could NEVER be described in just one word. it is so much fun, you make so many friends, you experience so much exilleration, and performing for large crowds, is seriously the best feeling in the world. when you step on the field, you have to own it!

it is definently worth the time. because it is indeed, very time consuming. if you were to miss just one practice, you'd be so behind. so you have to never miss a single practice, even if your sick. that's called dedication.

if you are a hardcore band geek, as you claim, then you should do it. but if you don't feel like putting that kind of time into it, don't bother. when i was a freshman, i had doubts about whether i should do marching band or not. i thought it was so geeky, and i didn't think i'd catch on, etc.

but i was so wrong! it's pretty much my LIFE. i live for our band.

you need to be able to memorize music, and be able to play and march at the same time. if i were you, i'd practice marking time. you do this by lifting your left foot, seeting it down, while lifting your other foot. it's like tapping your heel, but using both heels and kindof subdividing....if that makes any sense. mark time while playing.

i really hope you do it. it will be a very memorable experience, and you'll probably regret not doing it!

  7. Hi fellow flute friend! Marching band is going to be some of your greatest high school memories.  You are right. It is going to be a lot of hard work.  But it is so worth it!  It is amazing to be apart of a big group that works together for the goal of  the whole.  Plus, it is so rewarding to be apart of such a big fantastic show that you perform every week at football games as well as the band competitions.

There will be so many activities you will have to do with the band, and you will meet some great friends that you spend a lot of time with.

I always tell people that they should at least try it for one year, and if they do not like it don't do it for the other three.  But more often than not, people want to stay in it all 4 years.

I wish you the best of luck!  Thanks for reading!
