  1. It is either a baby black or roof rat, or an escaped laboratory modified field mouse. Black rats, have the distinct black color and it is quite small, so it could be a baby. It could be a field mouse that had been captured by a laboratory and had tests done that changed it a little and then it escaped.

    Hope this helps!!!

  2. I have no idea what it is but it does look strange for a mouse or rat... Are you sure it wasn't some kind of other baby animal?

  3. It looks like a baby mouse. How big is it?

  4. a aby rap cause mouse looks diffrent

  5. It looks like a young rat, which species is harder to tell.  We killed some that looked just like that last fall.

  6. With its big head it looks like it should still be with its mother. I would say that it is a 8 to 10day old wild rat baby. Rats are smaller than fullgrown mice untill about 2weeks old. Also its body shape is distorted by being wet and dead. mice are weaned at 18- 21days rats at 24days.

  7. Well, the other answerers may be right, however, what strikes me as different is the length of the hindlegs.

It made me think of a ricochetal (jumping) animal such as a kangaroo rat or a gerbil - in that case, it would be an escaped pet, poor thing.

The photograph is not in focus, so could you tell us if the tail was naked and scaly or hairy? Both gerbils and kangaroo rats have a hairy tail with a tuft of longer hairs at the tip. The ears of kangaroo rats are smaller, though.
