The price difference is noticeable but I can't figure out what makes one so much better than the other. I'm thinking of getting the 52" screen.

  1. your question is basically asking the same thing for now all sony TV models start with KDL but i know what u were asking. since KDL are in all models its the series u need to look for such as the the XBR series, the W series, V series, the S series, and etc. the xbr series has a better bravia engine as far as upconverting conparing to last years models as far as the v and w series, but sony came out with a new w series model which is the w4100 and it has all of the same attributes as the xbr 4 but with a higher contrast ratio. The contrast ratio on the xbr 4 series is about 18,000:1 but the new w4100 series has a contrast ratio of 30,000:1. now the xbr 4 or 5 are last year's models and the w4100 is this year's model. the KDL52XBR4 will cost u around $4000 but the new KDL52W4100 will cost u about $3000. then put out their new xbr7 and xbr8 which would b better than the w series and it might cost u around $4500-$5000 rough estimate i haven't seen them yet but i can imagine that it would cost that much.

  2. Sony's XBR series are their highest quality and offers the best image processing available today.  If you can afford it, and appreciate the difference, the XBR is certainly worth it.
