  1. Footmen carry out general errands and duties in both the Royal residences and whilst travelling with members of the Royal Family on official duties.

Their duties range from taking newspapers and mail to guests' bedrooms, to serving and clearing meals and carrying messages. They also ride on the Royal carriages on State occasions and at other times, such as when Ambassadors are driven to and from Buckingham Palace to present their credentials to The Queen.

The Queen retains two personal footmen who attend solely upon her.

There are various different Pages, who undertake a range of different duties.

The Page of the Chamber is responsible for the preparation of the State Rooms for The Queen's daily duties, including investitures and audiences.

The Pages of the Backstairs are five senior members of the Master of the Household's department who personally attend to The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. As with Footmen, their duties include serving meals, tidying personal apartments and managing appointments.

Pages of Honour are completely different to the Pages of the Backstairs and the Page of the Chambers. They are not full-time members of the Master of the Household's department but are instead selected from among the sons of The Queen's friends and her household. They are responsible for carrying The Queen's robe on ceremonial occasions.

The Pages of the Presence, who have usually worked their way up from the role of footman, act as personal attendants to Royal visitors. They are positioned at the Grand Entrance during events such as receptions and Investitures, supervise the arrival of important guests and are on duty at the Privy Purse door to welcome visitors and ensure that the red government boxes are safely received and dispatched.

And by sucking up alot and having uncly bob as a connection hehe.

A footman is a servant,an assistant to the butler, who carries out several duties, such as serving meals, bringing in supplies, polishing silver...whatever household work that needs to be carried out.

  3. A footman is a male servant, notably as domestic staff. The name derives from the attendants who ran beside or behind the carriages of aristocrats, many of whom were chosen for their physical attributes. Footman also refers to a private servant or a household servant, who usually serves—standing—at meals while the master and guests remain seated.

Male servants were more highly paid than female servants, and footmen were something of a luxury and therefore status symbol even among the servant-employing classes. They performed a less essential role than the cook, maid or even butler, and were part only of the grandest households. Since a footman was for show as much as for use, a tall footman was more highly prized than a small one, and good looks, including well-turned legs, which were shown off by the traditional footman's dress of stockings worn below knee breeches, an advantage. Footmen were expected to be unmarried and tended to be relatively young; they might, however, progress to other posts, notably that of butler.

Once a commonly employed servant in great houses, footmen are much rarer today, as few households can afford large retinues of servants and retainers.

The first footman is the highest ranking and serves as deputy butler; he acts as butler in the butler's absence. In a larger household, various footmen may be assigned specific duties such as the silver specialist, but usually the footmen perform a range of duties which include serving meals, opening and closing doors, carrying heavy items, or moving furniture for the housemaids to clean behind. The footmen may also double as valets, especially for visiting guests.
