Does anyone know what the federal law is for overtime. Is it greater than 40hrs or 8hrs?

  1. As far as I know it's anything past 40 hours as long as you earn hourly wages and not salaried wages. If you're salary, they can make you work any amount of hours they want. Though, some companies do pay their employees overtime.


  2. A lot of businesses are going to 10 hour days 4 days a week, so greater than 8 hours in a day will have no effect on your check. It's over 40 hours that you'd start getting OT.

  3. 40 hrs.  State law (as in CA) may also require OT for more than 8 hrs in a day, but Federal law does not.
