Does anyone know what the import tax is into Ireland from the U.S?

Im going to Boston for 2 weeks in Sept and I was wondering if I need to pay import duty on whatever I bring back? I have dual citizenship -I have american and Irish citizenship. Also, Im going getting a laptop in the U.S as it is waaaaaay cheaper.- Is it a good idea?? any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Your only allowed 13 euro in the Republic officially and unfortunately for you customs are clamping down because your not the first Irish person availing of the great exchange rate.

    The good news is that even paying the charges of VAT at 21% and tax (depends from 0 to 10% based on product) your still going to make a profit against Irish prices


  2. do you mean Ireland as in S.Ireland or N.Ireland?

    if N Ireland, you have an allowance of £145. if your goods collectively come to less than this you don't have to pay anything - you can go through the green channel. if you bring back more than this amount,  then duty and vat is payable on everything, regardless of the allowance.

    if S.ireland, i'm not 100% sure, generally the import rules are roughly the same but there's no guarantee to be honest.x
