Does anyone know what the large white object sitting in the water off Nice, France is? Is it to tie boats to?

It's fairly long and pokes out of the water in a straight line. I've just seen pictures of it and cannot figure out what it is. Thanks!

  1. Is this what you are talking about? http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Harbo...

If so it is the jetty with a light house at the end of it. Jetties are built to deviate or tame currents so as to facilitate ships' access to the shore. They can also be used as boarding piers, to load and unload ships, to tie boats... I don't know how it is used in Nice specifically.

EDIT: Sorry I don't know which picture you are talking about. Can you post a link to it? And maybe you have better luck asking your questions on the French Yahoo/Answers, locals would know: http://fr.answers.yahoo.com/dir/;_ylt=Ap...

Ask "Quelle est l'objet blanc dans l'eau sur la photo? A quoi ça sert? Merci." (What is the white object in the water in the picture? What's it for? Thanks)
