It should say on the back of the docket, which you still have, right? And by the way, a stores policy doesn't mean much in Australia, as they are governed by state retail law.

Take the item back to the store and see what they say. They will usually be straight with you and give you a refund or credit if your claim is valid. They know the law as well.

Without more specific outline of your situation, I can't tell you whether or not you're entitled to anything.
