Does anyone know what the safest make of car seat is for a 9 month old?

She's just starting to outgrow her infant carrier seat. Does anyone know where I can find the safest seat for her?

ive got 4 children and have always used the make Britax. ive tried other makes but they kept escaping from them.

MOTHERCARE swearer by this make.

I think a lot depends on your car. Go get some tried out. I have a new fiesta and the rear seats are quite high. I found that most of the car seats the seat belt goes through the back between the frame and the seat. This was useless in my car, as the three points that the seat was being held were so close together compared to the three points of the seat belt - it meant that the seat was fine in a forward impact, but rocked and rolled all over the place if I pushed it from the side - meaning it would be useless in a side impact.

We then tried a maxi-cosi tobi, as the first point of fixing is right at the top of the seat. The belt then runs around the top of the seat holding it close to where the seat belt goes into the car, and then down the side into the clicky bit (don' t know the technical name!) The belt then runs around the front at the bottom keeping it close to the seat base AND back. It also has an extra tensioner when you've secured it all to make it even MORE tight!

We find it excellent for our daughter who (unless she's being a real pain) usually falls asleep in it when we want her too, but when she's not tired she gets a great view out of the window!

Best bet is to check out reviews on website, find a few you like, go to somewhere like mothercare, babies r us and get them fitted to see which is safest. Then try to push for a discount, as you are BOUND to find them cheaper elsewhere - if they don't play the game, go and get one off the internet!!
