  1. These lines are repeated, but the translation is from a native German speaker off a forum:

When the small gondolas carry the mourning,

    And the mourning cries resound,

    You are overcome with dread.

When the clock begins to sound,

    Cold, thick tendrils of mist

    Touch you lightly.

    Located below the night,

    Located below the night,

    Living mist.

In the middle of the night,

In the dark of the night, cruel life,

    The bell rings twelve times.

Your blood freezes in your veins.

Your fear catches in your throat, too.

You hear your heart and the bell strike.

    This is night.

    My interpretation:

At the beginning, you see the woman walking around the mansion, then she floats to a tree and (kills a man?).  Then she freely goes back into her box.

Throughout the entire song, the man obviously knows who she is, and what she is doing.  He also knows it is her time to leave.

My guess is she is let out to experience life, much like a weird interpretation of Cinderella.  My question is: Who or what does the woman represent?
