A friend of mine in the military gave this to me and he said he got it in the military but i dont know what it is...

  1. It's a 911 Commemorative Coin, in a 1.5" Presentation case, worth about $7.

    There are different variations, but that is what it is.


  2. It's a coin. That's what they are called. Some commanders give them away as a jester of "you've gone way above" it's like saying you've done well. But that one in this picture is one that can be bought, it wasn't an award given to him. You can buy them all over the place on military bases. They aren't worth anything, just to show acomplishment. Or you can buy certain ones for military family members. Like my son has one that says Army brat. Kind of have to be in the military to appriciate them I guess

It's called a challenge coin.  It's a little fancy for one though.  A challenge coin is something most U.S servicemen carry.  It proves you are what you say you are.  How it works is that if someone makes a claim of a certain campaign.  He is then challenged and must produce his coin.  If he does not he must buy drinks.  Most challenges are held in drinking establishments.
